History of Christo Schools

The vision of Christo Schools came as a result of inert desire to change a particular background in which Rev Canon Humphrey Okechukwu was born.

It was the dream that gave birth to CHRISTO SCHOOLS in 2004. I desired to obtain an educational degree to back up my teaching experience, so I enrolled in LASU Ojo for my Post Graduate Diploma in Education PGDE. In the course of the programme, I met people that I was ten times better, with low moral standard as School Proprietors and Proprietresses; I decided to float a School of Class. I started designing the School. Two Schools came out of that design: CHRISTO 6TH FORM SCHOOL and CHRISTO JUNIOR SCHOOL. While CHRISTO 6th Form was to be a remedial School, CHRISTO JUNIOR SCHOOL was to be a Nursery and Primary School. We had published, advertised and circulated information to take off with the 6th Form School in August 2005 while the Nursery Primary will take off in September 2005. The Landlord came one day and revoked his permission to use his premises as a School. This decision was so devastating. All investment into it was brought to a halt. We decided we were not going to run the School in a rented apartment. We went into Land acquisition for the School and acquired a land at Ibiye and started building it for a School. I personally designed all the materials for the School’s take-off. However, all the required furniture had been purchased for the take-off of the school which eventually didn’t come to fulfillment.

In July 2009, we were sent on Christian mission to the Republic of Benin, on a ministerial assignment. After we had spent about five years and were not recalled, the vision came alive again and we started searching for an accommodation for the school from 2014.

Eventually, we secured a place at Cocotomey, Republic of Benin in 2016. The school took off in September, 2016 with about 11 pupils. The school offered Bilingual Education to children in Playgroup, Preschool 1 & 2 and Years 1 – 5. The School faced a lot of challenges because it was situated in a local community which led to its closure in January, 2017.

A new search commenced for relocation of the school to the town. We successfully relocated the school to Vedoko in Cotonou and it took off in January, 2018 with 16 pupils and closed at 33 pupils by the end of 2019/2020 academic session.

Due to lack of space, unconducive environment and some other location issues, the school, effective from 2020/2021 academic session, relocated to St. Peter’s Anglican Church premises, C/133, Sodjeatinme Est. Akpakpa, Cotonou. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the school has finally moved to Lot 180, IREDE Akpakpa, Cotonou, Republic of Benin.
